Below is the criteria from the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation:
The America 250 Project in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens
This project honors the diversity of America and individuals from all of our countries and cultures who have made a difference while here in the United States. It will kick off at One World Day 2026, and its exhibits will remain in the Gardens through the fall season.
Signage depicting individuals from your cultures will be displayed in your garden, with the following information:
1) Name
2) Date of birth and death. Living persons can be considered, as long as they have an established legacy. Current pop stars are discouraged.
3) Where that person was born
4) One to three sentences noting their contribution. The contribution will have been made after the person has emigrated to the United States. Due to space constraints, these will need to be brief.
The contributions can be in the areas of art, dance, music, science, literature, etc. The project will adhere to the guidelines of the Gardens as a whole, as outlined by its Design & Preservation Committee. No military or sports figures will be included in the project.
The text will be subject to review for spelling and grammar, and to make sure it meets project guidelines.
